From Lady Gaga to Melissa McCarthy: 5 Reasons to Love the Oscars

From Lady Gaga to Melissa McCarthy: 5 Reasons to Love the Oscars
Posted on

And just like that, Tinseltowns night of nights, Hollywood’s larger than life symbol of the entertainment business is over. The Oscars came and went like lightening but here at Sandy Swim we are keeping the memory alive for a little while longer, not just because we love all things La La Land but because this years Academy Awards was a pretty special one for us. Want to know why? You will have to keep reading to find out.

As we get ready for spring with our one-piece and two piece Sandy Swim bathing suits lets revisit the Red Carpet and share our top 5 reasons we love the Academy Awards.

1. Movies.

Imagine a world without Bohemian Rhapsody, A Star is Born and Mary Poppins. Go on…try! It’s pretty hard to imagine isn’t it? Whether you realise it or not, Hollywood is a pretty creative place and every year the industry creates magic by igniting on the big screen a world we only dream of. What looks like an effortless job actually takes a village to create. Seriously! It takes close to 600 people, in some cases many, many more, and close to 100 days to make a film. That’s not to mention the months, or even years it takes to actually green light a film and get it funded. Schedules are tight, days are long, and budgets are stretched to depth. So, next time you head to see the latest Marvel instalment, or a small Independent Feature Film keep in mind that Rome wasn’t build in a day and neither is a motion picture film.

The Academy Awards is a chance for the film industry to salute their hard work. We dig hard work, and we like it when people acknowledge their achievements!

2. Fashion.

“ I like watching the Oscars for the Red Carpet Fashion”

- Said every woman EVERYWHERE

We all love a good red carpet, and if we can’t be on the carpet ourselves, the next best thing is to eye our fave celebrities on the red carpet. Who doesn’t love to see what Julia Roberts and Lady Gaga are wearing and the Harry Winston jewels loaned to them because not even big actors with big paychecks can afford them? The Oscars red carpet is seriously NEXT LEVEL. It also gives us a candid look at our most loved actors on the biggest night of the year for their careers. It’s cool, it’s inspiring, and we love it!

Here at Sandy Swim we picked out our best dressed this year. Do you agree? Check them out:

Going Gaga for Gaga's classic Hollywood look. Lady Gaga hit the Oscars Red Carpet looking elegant in black accessorised with a $30 million Tiffany and Co Necklace, the largest yellow cut diamond in the world and was last worn by Audrey Hepburn for Breakfast at Tiffany's publicity shots.

Regina King dazzles the Oscar Red Carpet in a white Oscar de la Renta gown. With simplicity and elegance, her style reflects the beauty of her onscreen work. What a star.

J.Lo looking amazing in Tom Ford on the Oscars Red Carpet. The 49 year old Singer and Actress has a body to die for and knows exactly how to work it. She may always be Jenny from the Block but she will always be a Red Carpet Goddess.

Melissa McCarthy and hubby Ben Falcone did a quick costume change into matching track suits for the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party. Comfort wins. What legends!

3. Escapism.

Just like the movies they make, watching the Oscars is like reality TV at it’s best. Straight from Hollywood we get to see the worlds biggest stars uncensored and live. We see their winning tears, their laughs, their smiles, and occasionally the wrong best picture announced. In short, it’s exciting. Yes, it can be a long program but as mentioned above it takes a lot of people to make something look so easy. Everyone deserves to be acknowledged for his or her hard work right? Watching the Academy Awards is like RHOBH and Vanderpump Rules in one. Only difference is it’s live so anything can happen, and it often does.

4. The Parties.

If a Vanity Fair after party invite didn’t arrive in your inbox then why not host your own Oscar screening party? If you are a movie buff, and are yet to be added to Elton John’s Oscar party guest list then turn on the flat screen, get together your BBFs (best beach friends) and throw your own party. You may not be a movie star (yet), but any excuse for a celebration is a good enough excuse for us. You could even have everyone fill out their own Academy Award Ballot and vote just like the pros. The winner gets a cute Sandy Swim bikini! Boom!

If you hosted your own Academy Award screening party this year let us know some of the highlights. We would love to hear how you celebrated the awards.
